Mitt Romney Town Hall Meeting Cedar Rapids, IA 11/30/07 TRANSCRIPT: MITT ROMNEY: How important it is that America remain the strongest nation on earth. And that was brought home to me some months ago by the former Prime Minister of Israel, his name is Shimon Peres, was in Boston. Someone asked him what do you think about this conflict in Iraq. And he said before I respond to that I have to place it in context. He said in the history of the world America is unique. In the history of the world, he said, when ever there have been wars the nation that wins takes land from the nation that loses, because land has always been the source of value on the planet. One nation in history has laid down hundreds of thousands of lives and taken no land. No land from Germany, no land from Japan, No land from Korea. America, America is unique in history by virtue of the sacrifices we have made in blood and lives, for freedom, for ourselves and for freedom loving people all over the world. It is essential that America remain strong, it's essential that the next leader of this country know how to keep America strong, not just talk about it but actually do it. It's essential in America that we strengthen our economy, that we have good jobs for our citizens, that we strengthen our military to protect us, and that we strengthen our American family with your help, I will do it.
