Jamaican sets 200m record

Jamaica's Usain Bolt blazed to a second world record at the Beijing Games Wednesday, becoming the first man since Carl Lewis to capture an Olympic sprint double Wednesday. The man nicknamed "Lightning Bolt" followed his world record 100-meter crown with a stunning 200m performance in his preferred event, breaking Michael Johnson's 12-year-old mark with a time of 19.30 seconds. Bolt, whose father says he owes his speed and power to eating yams, again dropped jaws in Beijing's Bird's Nest national stadium with an explosive charge to the finish. In winning both sprints, Bolt equaled the illustrious American Lewis' 1984 feat a day before his 22nd birthday. Some of the more than 90,000 in attendance responded to his new world record by singing "Happy Birthday" to the Jamaican. Bolt's exploits have lit up his Caribbean homeland in the same way that Phelps's eight golds in Beijing have thrilled Americans, and the two men have become the embodiment of Games excellence.
