M-Tron - Tony Banks' 8 Choir
Yeah, yeah, I know I've done this particular example at least twice before. Both times, however, I had not stumbled upon that magic tone that characterizes the 8 Choir as it has been used on countless albums. I kept trying out different things until I finally hit upon the correct mix of EQ and effects. My example has been re-encoded as a FLV, which means that it should be available in stereo. UPDATE: Apparently I did something wrong because this didn't work. Ah, well. My EQ (parametric)/Effects: -A three-octave wide, 6.0 dB cut centered at 160 Hz -A four-octave wide, 9.0 dB cut centered at 320 Hz -A one-octave wide, 6.0 dB boost centered at 784 Hz -A three-octave wide, 3.0 dB boost centered at 2,636 Hz -A low-pass filter at 8,870 Hz *** -Tape Reverb (45 msec delay, no feedback/saturation, panned 100% left, dry 0.0 dB, wet -2.0 dB) -Omniverb (modified "Default hall" preset, wet -9.0 dB, T60 1,676 msec) *** In order to create the illusion of depth, I panned the signal +38 to the right (in Cubase terms) The links for each of these VST effects: http://www.a0audio.com/ (EQ and tape delay) http://www.jeroenbreebaart.com/audio_... (Omniverb) Please note that I used my modified version of the "Mixed Chorus" preset for this demo. The mod removes the attack portions from the samples. Users of the M-Tron who wish to produce similar results in this regard will need to compile their own SoundFont or similar--I cannot supply my copy for (obvious) legal reasons.
